was appointed Junior Minister to the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister on 15 December 1999 following devolution from the UK to Northern Ireland. He is Assembly Member for Mid-Ulster and one of the two Northern Ireland representatives on the EU Committee of the Regions.
